Remove EXIF Metadata from Photos
About the Image Metadata Remover
See exactly what a photo gives away — GPS location, camera make, model and serial number, the date it was taken, editing software, author and copyright, plus XMP, IPTC and comment blocks — and remove it before you share. JPG and PNG photos are cleaned by deleting the hidden data directly from the file, so the picture is not re-compressed and its quality is exactly the same.
This tool works in your browser: the files and text you use are processed on your device and are not uploaded.
How to use it
- Drop in, choose or paste a photo — the hidden information it contains is listed straight away.
- Press Remove metadata.
- Download the clean copy, verified to contain no metadata, ready to share safely.
Frequently asked questions
What metadata does it remove?
GPS location, camera make and model, camera serial number, owner name, date taken and modified, editing software, artist and copyright (EXIF), XMP and IPTC blocks, comments, and PNG text notes. The photo’s rotation and colour profile are kept because they don’t identify you and the photo would otherwise look wrong.
What format is the cleaned image?
The same format as the original. JPG and PNG are cleaned losslessly — the image data is untouched. WebP and other formats are redrawn to remove the data, at high quality.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Reading and cleaning happen entirely in your browser — the image never leaves your device.
Why does my WhatsApp photo show no metadata?
Many apps, including WhatsApp, already remove location and camera data when they send a photo. Photos straight from your phone’s camera, or sent “as a document”, usually still contain it.
