Bubble Level

About the Bubble Level

A dual-axis spirit (bubble) level that uses your device’s motion sensors to show pitch and roll in degrees, with a clear "perfectly level" indicator when both axes are near zero. It shares the Physics & Sensors suite with a compass, location sharer and tally counter. Use it to hang a picture, level a shelf or check a surface — all on-device, no app to install.

This tool works in your browser: the files and text you use are processed on your device and are not uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Open the tool on a phone or tablet and grant motion-sensor permission when prompted.
  2. Rest the device on or against the surface you want to check.
  3. Adjust until both the pitch and roll readings sit near 0° and the level indicator turns green.

Frequently asked questions

What do pitch and roll mean?

Pitch is the front-to-back tilt and roll is the side-to-side tilt of your device. When both are close to zero, the surface it rests on is level.

Why do I need to grant a permission?

The level reads your device orientation sensors, and on iOS browsers require explicit permission before those values are available.

How accurate is it?

It reflects your device’s accelerometer, which is good for everyday levelling but not a substitute for a calibrated precision instrument. Rest the device on a flat edge for the steadiest reading.
