Fuel Cost Calculator
About the Fuel & Trip Cost Estimator
Estimate how much fuel a trip needs and what it will cost. Enter the distance, your vehicle’s mileage and the price of fuel, and the calculator shows the fuel required and the total, which makes it easy to compare routes or vehicles before you set off.
This tool works in your browser: the files and text you use are processed on your device and are not uploaded.
How to use it
- Open the Fuel / Trip Cost tab.
- Enter the trip distance and your vehicle’s mileage in the same unit system.
- Enter the price of fuel per unit.
- Read the fuel needed and the estimated cost of the trip.
Frequently asked questions
How is trip fuel cost calculated?
Fuel needed = distance ÷ fuel efficiency, and cost = fuel needed × price per litre (or gallon). A 300 km trip in a car doing 12 km/l with fuel at 280/litre needs 25 litres and costs 7,000.
How do I find my car’s real fuel efficiency?
Fill the tank completely, reset the trip meter, drive normally, then refill and divide the kilometres driven by the litres it took to refill. Real-world efficiency is typically 10–20% worse than the manufacturer’s figure.
How can I reduce fuel consumption?
Smooth acceleration, keeping tyres properly inflated, removing roof racks and excess weight, and maintaining a steady 80–100 km/h on highways can together improve consumption by 10–25%.
